The Lowdown

GlobalWoman · Find your way in the world

Reclaim your power. Awaken your superpowers.

Where are the women? I asked that question as a child, and I’ve spent my life building the answer.

The lowdown

What are the asteroid goddesses?

The asteroid goddesses are asteroids and other small bodies named after goddesses, most famously Ceres, Pallas Athene, Juno and Vesta. In astrology they add the feminine archetypes that a chart of only the Sun, Moon and planets leaves out: the nurturer, the strategist, the partner, the devotee, and wilder figures like Lilith and Eris.

As a young, inquisitive girl educated in a Catholic school, I remember studying the New Testament. Being a feisty child with a curious mind, I remember thinking, and asking, much to the nuns’ chagrin: where are the women?

Herstory

Where are the women?

With the exception of a few main characters, women had been written out of the story, or relegated to supporting roles. They were cast as one of two flat characters: the good mother, Mary, or the “bad girl”, Mary Magdalene. I lived out Mary Magdalene over mother Mary.

Even at that age, I knew how odd it was that women’s lives weren’t central to the story. And I began to internalise the message that women’s voices mattered less than men’s.

That question, where are the women,
was the first step of finding my own way in the world.

No one had mapped a way for me yet. I’d have to build it.

The search

The search begins

Intuitively, I knew that the full story of women’s lives and power, in history and in myth, wasn’t being told. So began my search for a spiritual story I could connect with: one where women were front and centre, one that could be a muse instead of a footnote.

The search eventually led me to astrology. To my great surprise, I found the same two archetypes there: the Moon as mother, and Venus as lover. The good mother and the bad girl, again. Not only had women been written out of religion, they had been written into just two roles in astrology too.

Women’s lives had been conditioned to exist within those two archetypes. Step outside them, and you were judged and pushed to the edge. My search was for a way of living beyond those assigned roles, where my spirit was equal to anyone’s, and where women were visible with their full power.

The book that changed everything

Demetra George

My study led me to the astrologer Demetra George, author of Asteroid Goddesses and Mysteries of the Dark Moon. Reading her was an epiphany. For the first time, women weren’t the sidebar. They were the muse.

George traces the arc of women in religion, myth and astrology: a time when goddesses were revered, and a long decline, as many writers have argued, as male-dominated cultures and monotheistic religions rose and the creative spirit came to be seen as masculine.

The shadow

When women’s power came to be feared

As the goddesses faded, so did the recognition of women as priestesses, artists and makers of culture. Their disappearance from the story was mirrored in the limits placed on women’s agency, autonomy and access to power.

What was once revered
came to be feared.

The sisterhood

Meet the asteroid goddesses

Each one a muse in her own right.

I lovingly call them the Goddess Sisterhood. Each one is a muse in her own right, and knowing which goddess powers are strongest in your chart tells you something important about your life’s work, and your revolution.

Ceres

The nurturer · discovered 1801

Mother of the harvest, and of loss and return. She shows how you nurture and need to be nurtured, and how you move through grief and letting go.

Pallas Athene

The strategist · discovered 1802

Wisdom, creative intelligence and the ability to see patterns others miss. She shows how you think, plan and fight for what matters.

Juno

The partner · discovered 1804

Commitment, partnership and equality in relationship. She shows what you need to feel truly met, and where you won’t accept less.

Vesta

The devotee · discovered 1807

Focus, devotion and the sacred flame. She shows what you’re here to tend. Find Vesta in your chart.

Lilith

The wild one

The refused and exiled part of you: your desire, anger and power, reclaimed. Read about Lilith in astrology.

Fortuna

The turning wheel

Luck, fate and timing. She shows where fortune finds you, and how you ride the wheel as it turns.

Eris

The disruptor · discovered 2005

Goddess of discord, who threw the golden apple. She shows where you refuse to be left out, and where you shake things up for the better.

The Triple Lunar Goddess

Maiden, mother and crone

The Moon in all her phases: the waxing maiden, the full mother and the dark crone. She shows that a woman is never only one thing.

The superpowers only come to life
when they’re activated, honoured and harnessed.

Find them in your chart with a free calculator that includes asteroids, the same way you would find Vesta. Their signs and houses show where each goddess works in your life.

The vision

Women’s power, emerging from the shadow

My vision for GlobalWoman is to support every woman to live with full access to her power, not limited to the culturally assigned roles of “feminine power”. That is what freedom means to me: the choice to express myself as I choose, and to create a life that serves and excites me.

It’s the idea at the heart of GlobalWoman: that every woman has a muse of her own, and finding your way in the world starts with learning to listen to her.

Using your goddess-given powers is the difference
between living an ordinary life and a revolutionary one.

That’s how you find your way in the world: not by following someone else’s map, but by finally meeting your own muse.
