Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the First Nations people as Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live, and the land on which we meet. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community.

Specifically, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the traditional owners of the land upon which the GlobalWoman office in Sydney is located.

GlobalWoman Statement on Diversity and Inclusion

GlobalWoman honours our ancestors, specifically the women who have come before us in our matrilineal line.

Wherever ‘GlobalWoman’, ‘woman’ or ‘goddess’ are used we intend to speak to an inclusive definition of woman and femaleness which includes black and indigenous women of colour (BIWOC).

All women are welcome, inclusive of the diversity of bodies, genders, sexualities and relationships, and welcoming of trans, genderqueer, non-binary, and cis women.

The Matrilineal Line

The mission of GlobalWoman is to co-create a female-centred world that connects, champions and energises women across the world to find a life that is theirs.

This has been my life’s work.

It started as I grew up in the western suburbs of Sydney. All around me were role-models of women doing their utmost to carve meaningful lives out of the patriarchal bedrock that had formed over thousands of years, passing from generation to generation.

I saw the struggle up close and it wasn’t easy.

My great-grandmother Margaret who as a teenager left Ireland for Adelaide, and lived an extraordinary life until the age of 95.

She left Ireland due to famine. On arrival in Australia, I recognise that the life my great-grandmother made for herself was built on stolen lands. The exiled became the occupier. 

Margaret’s extraordinary life included birthing her daughter and my maternal grandmother Bridget. Bridget birthed my mother Betty and my maternal aunts, Mary and Kathleen.

Betty birthed eight children, including myself and my sisters Anne and Helen.

My great-grandmother’s momentous decision to shape her life by immigrating to Australia has resulted in an enormous, loving and extended clan has grown. 

The nuns that ran the local Catholic schools I attended, and the teachers doing their best to encourage in all of us, a life-time love of learning.

Exploring Astrology

When I first started studying Astrology, I was presented with the conventional hetero-normative, patriarchal version that is taught; a version where the female symbols were reduced to the Moon/Venus binary of Mother and Mate. 

I came to learn that the fullness of women’s lives had been written out of Astrology, and I asked myself, as I had with the Bible, ‘Where are the women?’

I started seeking answers by reading, asking and learning about the omitted symbols which represent the whole container of a woman’s lived experience; Lilith, Ceres, Pallas Athene, Juno, Vesta and Fortuna.

I have come to know that Astrology is the interpretation of two evolving languages; mathematics and mythology.
