The true meaning of Aquarius
Water carrier
The name
Aquarius means “water carrier”, from the Latin aqua, meaning water. Its glyph, two wavy lines, represents waves of water.
Aquarius and Leo
The axis
Aquarius sits on the astrological axis with Leo, so when the Sun is in Aquarius, the full moon falls in Leo.
Uranus as ruler
The ruler
Each sign is associated with a ruling planet that shapes its character. Saturn is the traditional ruler of Aquarius, but the discovery of Uranus in 1781 led to its modern association with the sign.
On 13 March 1781, William Herschel observed and noted a new object in the night sky. After weeks of verification with other astronomers, it was confirmed as a new planet and named Uranus.
Uranus was the first planet discovered since antiquity, and the first found with a telescope. It expanded our understanding of the solar system.
