Ishtar – Queen of Heaven

Modules released: Tuesday June 11th, 18th, 25th & July 2nd PST

Ishtar, inheriting her principal legacy from the Inanna Sumerian tradition as a fertility icon, underwent a profound metamorphosis, evolving into a nuanced character that traverses the realms of death and catastrophe.

Ishtar embodies paradoxical forces, seamlessly oscillating between elements like fire and its quenching, moments of rejoicing and tears, and the delicate balance between fair play and enmity.

Within the Akkadian tradition, Ishtar emerges as a heavenly deity intricately interwoven with the celestial tapestry of Venus. Ishtar forms a celestial triad with the sun god Shamash and the moon god Sin, a spectacle symbolised by a star adorned with 6, 8, or 16 rays encapsulated within a circle.

In subsequent myths, Ishtar ascends to the illustrious title of Queen of the Universe, solidifying her status as a paramount divine figure.

 Navigating Ishtar’s Transformation

Before the ascent of Venus as the Roman Goddess of Love and Mars as the God of War, Ishtar held dual associations with both love and war.

Before Venus emerged as the Goddess of Love, Ishtar was the world’s first known goddess of love and connected to many forms of emotional intimacy.

Before the seven chakras and sacraments, Ishtar faced seven obstacles on her journey to the Underworld, leading to her profound transformation.

Ishtar was revered for being a fertility Goddess but never a mother goddess.

Before the idea of the Hero’s Journey, Ishtar travelled to the Underworld and returned.

The original Heroine’s Journey.

‘No one comes back from the underworld unmarked.’

One Goddess. One Muse. One Course. Four Weeks.
